席を譲るべきか否か （２）
私は２３歳の女性です。６０歳の方が電車の中でひどい目にあわれた話を読みました。でも、私は漫画に夢中になっていた男性や、話をしていた女子高生や、眠っていた若い女性を責める気になれません。私自身が同じような態度をとったと思うからです。
わたしは職場に電車で通勤しています。片道２時間かかりますから、毎日４時間も電車に乗ることになります。体調を保ち、痴漢を避けるため座席はどうしても必要です。毎朝座席を確保するため必死です。そのため始発駅まで戻ります。ですからいったん席に座ったら誰にも譲りません。子供にも、お年寄りにも、身体障害者の方にも。
お年寄りや身障者の方は混んでいる電車に乗らなくてはならないものでしょうか。ラッシュアワーを避けれないのでしょうか。混んでいない電車を待つことはできないのでしょうか。わたしは切符を買っていますから、座席に座る権利があります。どうして他の人でなく、この私が席を譲らなくてはならないのでしょう。お年寄りや身障者の方はラッシュアワーは通勤者には迷惑です。わたしの友達も私と同じ意見です。

TO GIVE OR NOT TO GIVE A SEAT (2)
I am a 23-year-old woman. I read the ordeal of the 60-year-old man in the train. I do not blame the young man who was absorbed in reading a comic book, nor the chattering high school girls, nor the sleeping woman, because I myself would have taken the same attitude toward the man.
I commute to my working place by train. It takes me about two hours to reach there. This means I have to ride for four hours every day. In ordr to keep myself fit and avoid perverts I need a seat. Every morning I make desperate efforts to secure a seat for myself. I even ride back to the starting station to get a seat. Therefore, once I get one, I never give it to anybody, nor even to small children nor the elderly. Neither do I give it to the handicapped.
I wonder if the elderly or the physically disabled should get on a crowded train. Why can't they avoid rush hours? Why can't they wait for a less crowded train where they can get seats? Besides, I pay for my ticket. I have all the right to my seat. Why should I, and not that man or that girl, offer my seat to them? They are a nuisance to commuters during rush hours. My friends agree with me.
