大熊座の尾はなぜ長い

　乗鞍の「高原散策」の二日目の夜、星座観察をしましたが、時間の関係で森本君は大熊座の説明ができませんでした。ここでその話をしてもらいます。では、あのキラキラ輝く７つの星を見て下さい。

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

★天界に浮気者の神ゼウスがいました。ゼウスは妻がいるのにカリストと言う女を愛し、カリストは子供を産みました。
★この話を聞いたゼウスの妻ヘラは怒り狂い、カリストを醜い熊に変えてしまいました。カリストは自分の姿を気にして森の奥に姿を隠しました。
★時は流れ、カリストの子アルカスは立派に成長しました。ある日、アルカスは森に狩りに出かけた時、熊のカリスト（実は自分の母）を見て矢を向けました。これを見たゼウスはつむじ風を起こして二人をふっ飛ばしました。その時ゼウスは熊の尻尾を持っていたため、尻尾はぐーっと伸びてしまいました。
★ところで、アルカスも熊にされて北の夜空に引っかかっています。これが小熊座です。

WHY IS THE GREAT BEAR’S TAIL LONG?

　　We went hiking in Mt. Norikura. On the second night, we enjoyed looking at the stars and listened to stories about them. But alas, we did not have enough time. Morimoto-kun missed his chance to talk about the Great Bear. So, he will talk about it here.
　　Now, everyone, look at those seven bright stars and listen to him.

★There was once a god. His name was Zeus. He had a wife, but loved Callisto. Soon, Callisto had a baby.
★Zeus’s wife, Hera, heard this, and got very angry. She changed Callisto into a bear. Callisto was sad. She did not want others to look at her. She went deep into a forest, and hid herself.
★Time passed. Callisto’s son, Arcas, became a young man. One day, he went hunting in the forest. There he saw a big bear (Callisto, his mother), and aimed an arrow at it.
★Zeus saw this. He blew the bear and Arcas up into the sky. At this time, he held the bear’s tail in his hand. So, the tail became long.
★Arcas also became a bear, and is now up in the north sky. He is the Little Bear.
