　米国モンタナ州シャイアン族酋長、エドウィン・ディールさんからのお礼の手紙です。

　拝啓、北シャイアン族の代表として一筆お礼の言葉を申し上げます。お送り下さいました衣類をちょうだい致しまして、ご厚意に深く感謝いたします。誠にありがとうございました。
　「指導者の地位につく者は優れた知性、思いやりの心、気高い人格を持ち、また善良な人でなければならない」とシャイアン族では申します。誠に「日出ずる国」の皆さま方は気高く、思いやりのある方々に違いないと存じます。
　私どもシャイアン族は今般のご誠実なご厚情に対しまして、いつの日にかお返しができるようにと祈っております。私どもの部族は今だに生活が苦しく、その苦境から抜け出しつつある現状ではございますが、今なお経済的にはアメリカ合衆国政府に依存しております。私どもは日本の皆さまを模範と仰ぎ、できますれば皆さま方が享受しておられる経済的成功と同じレベルのものをかち得たいと願っております。
　ここに重ねてお礼を申し上げます。あなた方と日本の国民の皆様に神のご加護がございますように。

　　The following is a letter of appreciation from Mr. Edwin Dahle, President of Northern Cheyenne Tribe in Montana, USA.

Dear Students,
　　I am writing this letter of appreciation for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. Recipients of the clothing were very appreciative and grateful for this gesture of generosity.
　　It is said among our people, in order for a person to reach a position of leadership, that person must possess traits of wisdom, generosity, spirituality, and be good natured. Truly, the people from the Land of the Rising Sun must be a noble and generous people.
　　The Cheyenne people pray that someday soon we can return this act of good faith. We are still a struggling and emerging nation. Economically, we are dependent upon the United States Government. My people look to your people as a model, and hopefully we can attain the same level of economic success your people enjoy.
　　Again, we express our gratitude. May the Creator of All Things always watch over you and your people.
